Datsun Brand to Sell Cars in South Africa as Well Starting from 2014 First Teaser Rendering
At a press conference at Nissans Yokohama plant on Monday, the Japanese carmaker announced that the re-born Datsun Brand is set to return to South Africa, with the first passenger car to be launched onto the market at the end of 2014.
The announcement follows a global decision in 2010 to re-introduce the Datsun brand as part of the Japanese companys "Nissan Power 88" mid-term plan, which calls for an 8 percent global market share and 8 percent operating profit by fiscal year 2016.
Currently, Datsun sales are planned for four major markets, including South Africa, India, Indonesia and Russia, during the course of 2014.
"Following Infinitis launch last year, we are delighted that South Africa is also a destination of choice for Datsun vehicles," commented Mike Whitfield, managing director of Nissan South Africa (NSA).
"Datsun enjoyed a proud heritage in the country after the Bluebird made its debut at the Pretoria Show in 1958, the 120Y and SSS models were household names, before going on to become the number one brand between 1976 and 1978."
In addition to the announcement, we also found a teaser rendering showing the front end of Datsuns first production model that will be a compact passenger car. Were not sure if this image has gone public before, but this is the first time weve seen it.
In December, it was revealed that the Datsuns new low-cost family cars will share their underpinnings with Russias Lada, which in mid-2014, will pass into the ownership of the Renault-Nissan Alliance.

The EcoSport will be equipped with Ford SYNC voice-activated in-car connectivity system as well as SYNC Emergency Assistance. In addition, the compact SUV will be one of the first Ford vehicles in Europe to offer Ford SYNC AppLink, which enables customers to voice-control smartphone apps from the drivers seat.

Built on Fords global B-segment platform, the compact EcoSport will deliver the agility and fuel efficiency of a small family car with the flexibility, spaciousness, high driving position, and "go anywhere" appeal of an SUV.
"The role of the car is evolving," said Mascarenas. "Customers want to be able to safely enjoy the same level of connectivity in their cars as they would do at home, and SYNC AppLink enables then to do just that. By maximising the potential of apps, Ford can offer customers a class-leading range of smartphone app capabilities while on the move."
Ford SYNC with Emergency Assistance directly connects the vehicle occupants to local emergency services operators after an accident, in the correct language for the region using information from the vehicles on-board GPS unit, and mobile network to pinpoint accident location and choose the appropriate language in which to deliver an introductory message.
The all-new Ford EcoSport will be offered with Fords innovative 125 PS 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine, the "International Engine of the Year," a 110 PS 1.5-litre petrol engine; and a 90 PS 1.5-litre diesel engine expected to deliver class-leading fuel efficiency.
The SUVs distinctive front grille, short bonnet and raked front pillars, deliver a sporty and contemporary feel, and angular headlamps reinforce the modern look. It will also offer a comprehensive package of driver assistance technologies including Electronic Stability Program and Hill Launch Assist.

New 2014 Toyota Corolla leaked
Weve got our hands on leaked pictures of the next-gen Corolla, and as we suspected, the car borrows styling cues from Toyotas Furia concept.
These are the first leaked photographs of the next-generation Toyota Corolla.
Toyota had showcased a saloon concept called the Corolla Furia at January’s Detroit Motor Show, which was believed to preview the new Corolla’s styling. From these first pictures it seems that although much of the aggressive detailing has been toned down for production, the car’s basic shape and sharp lines have remained faithful to the concept.
The styling also appears to be heavily influenced by Toyota’s other recently launched international models – the Rav4 and Auris, and there are hints of the new Camry in there as well.
The front bumper loses the Furia concept’s carbon accents, but still gets the wide central air dam, albeit with a body-coloured chin, and there are more conventional fog lamps too. The bonnet gets prominent creases on both sides. The chrome-heavy grille blends seamlessly into the blacked-out headlamps, which look great as they sweep upwards into the fenders. We can also see front parking sensors and headlamp washers, along with LED accents above the indicators.
In profile the car gets aggressive creases and bulging wheel arches, front and rear. The shoulder line rises from fender to fender, much like the Camry’s, and the window line kinks up sharply into the C pillar. At the rear, the wraparound tail-lamps are influenced by the concept, but the rear end also reminds you of the Camry, thanks to the thick band of chrome that sits above the number plate and the sculpted rear bumper.
There is no news regarding the car’s mechanicals front, but Toyota can be expected to offer the next Corolla with updated versions of the current car’s petrol and diesel engines, likely tuned for improved power and fuel-efficiency.
Expect the new Corolla to be officially unveiled sometime later this year.

Auto Expo 2014 venue changed
The Indian Auto Expo 2014 will move to a larger exhibit area in Greater Noida.
The next edition of the Indian Auto Expo, to be held in 2014, is all set to get a change of venue. The event is traditionally held in January at the Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, but to avoid clashing with the Detroit Motor Show and owing to unavailability of the conventional venue, it’ll be held from February 6-12 in Greater Noida, announced the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
The 2014 Expo is also about to get a lot bigger with exhibitors being allotted over 50,000 sq.m of space as opposed to less than 40,000 sq.m available for the exhibit this year. SIAM will organise a bus and utility vehicles show from February 15-18 in 2013 as a trial run leading up to the Expo the year after.
“We will be showing only vehicles and accessories at the India Expo Centre and Mart at Greater Noida,” said Vishnu Mathur, director general, SIAM, adding that components will be exhibited at a separate venue.
